The Horses

Drover

DroverA middle-aged grey stockhorse with a dark mane and tail. She’s a neat horse with an even mane and a tail cut square by the girls.

She is no-nonsense and hates being locked up in a paddock. She mistrusts children. Drover used to be a great drover’s horse - quick, sensible, clever and calm - but after she was nearly hit be a train she began bolting any time she heard or saw a train. She becomes Bill Cooper’s police horse for a while - a job she also performs really well - but all the years of living on the road have given her a wanderlust that never goes away. In the first book, Drover swaps places with Shadow and runs away to join the brumbies.
